Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer

7 Goals

January 26th, 2006

... I have for my future.

Today I was thinking about things I want to do in the future. These are perhaps things I cannot accomplish here at school due to the location, the circumstance, or the time. This is a short list of a few of those things.

Learn to Ride a Motorcycle

The last two summers I have told myself I am going to get my motorcycle license and both summers I have done nothing to accomplish this. I don’t know that I want to ride a motorcycle for the rest of my life, but I would enjoy knowing how to ride one. Will 2006 be the year? Who knows.

Play Roller Hockey Again

I haven’t played any roller hockey for a couple years. When I started at the community college full time I stopped playing, and there are no opportunities to play here at Rose. I’m not sure what has reminded me of it, but recently I have this desire to play again. I really enjoy the teamwork, the sport, and I need to do something to get in shape again. Playing again is on the top of my list for summer 2006.

Write a Computer Game

While I haven’t done much in the way of game development lately, and I am thoroughly enjoying web development, I still would enjoy working on games. I am not sure when I am going to work on this, but it is something I really want to do. What would I make? Something simple, not graphics intensive, and probably multiplayer. If only I had more hours in the day.

Make Myself a Website

Aha! Something I have wanted to do since last summer. This may become a reality as I finish up a CMS this quarter, but work will still need to be done to customize it for my own personal site. The biggest problem with designing myself is a site is what do I make? I have read several articles emphasizing on how design should focus on solving problems, not just creating a pretty layout. What sort of content will my site have? Stuff like this, which I do not know, is what should dictate what my site will be like. It is a lot of fun writing for my blog, but I will need more if I make my own site.

Get a Summer Job Not in California

While I would not mind spending the next summer in California again, I would really enjoy the experience of living alone, in a new place, and meeting new people. This may not be practical. Most likely I will live where I get a job, but perhaps that won’t be in Southern California.

Unicycle More

After hardly riding last year, I left my unicycles at home this year. I wish I had brought them. It would be fun to teach my roommates and ride around. Hopefully the opportunity to ride with people over the summer will present itself, as I have little desire to ride a lot by myself.

Learn Something New

After thinking about unicycling, and all the juggling and ping-pong I’ve done this year, I was thinking how I would like to learn something new. I really enjoy physical agility and accuracy “sports.” What would I learn? I have no idea. Perhaps you guys can recommend something.

After almost a year, I started up hockey again with my cousin. We both joined the Scotts Valley house league which I used to faithfully plan in every season.

Last night, our second game, we won 6-0, Mac and I both getting 1 goal. It’s fun. You should get back into it.

Seven things? Bah. You should be doing 43things.

I think I’ll take that job at CityTeam just so I can join the roller hockey league too. Awesome.
